GOLDEN AGE OF ISLAM AND THEIR LIBRARIES
Golden age of islam is referred to the period when Islamic civilization
was the most prominent in the world for atleast five centuries.
During this period "Khalid ibn Yazid" an Umayyud prince
established first Islamic library in Damascus in 689 A.D.
Scholars like "Mackensen dan" suggest that this libraries
played important roles in development of Islamic civilization.
These libraries have
contributed to development in science all over the Europe and also in muslim
world.
At this point there were 100 book shops in Baghdad which
played an important role in this golden age in 11th century. Baghdad was known as the city of knowledge or the house of wisdom.
Translating was also part of the libraries, many cultures
like Persian was translated and published to raise awareness and to educate people
about different cultures.
Lyon mentioned that through this run of the golden age
muslims have contributed in development of science and transformed to western
civilization.
